Introducing one of my area’s best and most successful vintage businesswomen – Sarah Dunn of Sarah’s Doo-Wop Dos!

I first met Sarah when she had a little parlour in the corner of one of my favourite vintage shops, Rose-tinted Vintage in Bedford. Rose-tinted, which sadly closed last year, was a really fantastic shop with terrific stock and Sarah had a pretty corner where women could come for victory rolls, curls and bouffants. She also held hair stalls at vintage events including Twinwood and my favourite, the Bletchley Park 1940s weekend.

Since then her business has grown steadily and she’s now a regular fixture at most vintage-themed local events, the big shows and on the wedding circuit. She also regularly holds workshops where customers can learn to do their own vintage dos at home.

For my birthday in November my very sweet and generous sister surprised me with a vintage makeover at Sarah’s home-based parlour, where she takes appointments. Sarah had recently transformed the front room of her house into a cracking retro haven with vintage hairdressing tools including 1950s hairdryers lining the walls. Throw in some cava and party food (supplied by my big sis) and you’ve got yourself a perfect Saturday afternoon.

I went for a beehive, which I must learn to do myself, and matching 1960s-style make-up. Thanks for a brilliant day, Sarah! xxx
