Barcelona: vintage shopping

result-6

I love Barcelona. I love the architecture, the food, the cheap beer and the laid-back lifestyle – a fabulous break from home when I’ve been working flat out writing articles for finance magazines.

My dear friend Beth has lived in Barcelona for about five years and by now has shown me around most of her favourite places. Beth and I both love a good vintage and charity shop trip so on top tour guide form, during my last trip in November, she took me to the best Barcelona vintage shop she’s shown me yet – Kilostore on Carrer de la Riera Baixa.

Take a short walk from La Rambla for vintage sold by the weight and really lovely service. Despite apparently having plenty of similar shops in England, I’d never come across one so I got pretty excited.

Kilostore is especially good for really cheap and good quality coats and jackets, knitwear and accessories. I got a fantastic men’s navy pea coat – with little red anchors embroidered in the lapels – for about €25.

Everything, except for very light and difficult to weigh items like belts, is labelled black or white, giving it a price of either €20 or €30 a kilo. Take it to the till and the really nice staff will weigh it, get out a calculator and tell you exactly how much it is.

Wilton’s

Yesterday my friends and I capped off a perfect Saturday in London with a trip to Wilton’s Music Hall near Cable Street. We’d already been to the Isabella Blow exhibition at Somerset House, which I’ll blog about in a few days, and had a late lunch at The Breakfast Club in Spitalfields when we popped in for a few chilled out drinks in the Mahogany Bar.

Wilton’s – the world’s oldest surviving music hall – is one of my absolute favourite places in London. I commuted to London for five years before going freelance and when our office moved to Wapping, which felt about 10 miles from anywhere, Wilton’s became our haven – it was just around the corner from work, tucked away off the main road, and it was our cosy little living room for the best leaving dos, after work pints and Christmas drinks. They also do fantastic and very cheap food during shows.

Auriol had never been and I knew she’d love it…

Pretending this is our front room. How much cool stuff can we fit in our bags?

Snaps this week

My only proper Instagrams this week were old pics from my New York trip in September. I really ought to stop talking about it. But in the meantime, here are some delicious ricotta pancakes and dandelion pesto for brunch at Five Leaves, Greenpoint…

My new blog

result-24

A quick post to say that I have just started a new photography blog. I’ve wanted to organise all of my non-vintage blog photographs for a while and I’m not a fan of Facebook so I thought a blog would be the best way to do it. I’ve started out with some of the images you might have seen on JennyVintage and will hopefully be out taking lots of new ones soon.

My new place is at jenniferbollenphotog.wordpress.com.

Cheers,

Jen x
