My only proper Instagrams this week were old pics from my New York trip in September. I really ought to stop talking about it. But in the meantime, here are some delicious ricotta pancakes and dandelion pesto for brunch at Five Leaves, Greenpoint…

The black and yellow creepers

result

result-1

I think I’m in danger of amassing a ridiculous collection of barely-worn Dr Martens. I live close enough to the Doc Shop – the factory shop in Wollaston where you can pick up any pair of shoes for £25 and any boots for £30 – that buying new DMs feels a bit like popping to the charity shops for a super cheap shopping fix.

I got these creepers just before Christmas and I haven’t worn them much yet but I met a lovely girl at the weekend who has them in all-black and it made me want to break mine in. Yesterday I went out with my friend Auriol in some monkeys, a handbag my friend Ayesha bought me for Christmas and a little furry jacket because it was warm enough that it practically felt like spring!

I’m wearing:

Jersey dress – Wowsville, Newport Pagnell, Milton Keynes

Furry jacket – charity shop

Dr Martens creepers – £25 from the Doc Shop, Wollaston

Bag – a Christmas present but I think from Urban Outfitters

Monkeys necklace – Topshop

Watch ring – vintage

Sarah’s Doo-Wop Dos

result-9

Introducing one of my area’s best and most successful vintage businesswomen – Sarah Dunn of Sarah’s Doo-Wop Dos!

I first met Sarah when she had a little parlour in the corner of one of my favourite vintage shops, Rose-tinted Vintage in Bedford. Rose-tinted, which sadly closed last year, was a really fantastic shop with terrific stock and Sarah had a pretty corner where women could come for victory rolls, curls and bouffants. She also held hair stalls at vintage events including Twinwood and my favourite, the Bletchley Park 1940s weekend.

Since then her business has grown steadily and she’s now a regular fixture at most vintage-themed local events, the big shows and on the wedding circuit. She also regularly holds workshops where customers can learn to do their own vintage dos at home.

For my birthday in November my very sweet and generous sister surprised me with a vintage makeover at Sarah’s home-based parlour, where she takes appointments. Sarah had recently transformed the front room of her house into a cracking retro haven with vintage hairdressing tools including 1950s hairdryers lining the walls. Throw in some cava and party food (supplied by my big sis) and you’ve got yourself a perfect Saturday afternoon.

I went for a beehive, which I must learn to do myself, and matching 1960s-style make-up. Thanks for a brilliant day, Sarah! xxx

My new blog

result-24

A quick post to say that I have just started a new photography blog. I’ve wanted to organise all of my non-vintage blog photographs for a while and I’m not a fan of Facebook so I thought a blog would be the best way to do it. I’ve started out with some of the images you might have seen on JennyVintage and will hopefully be out taking lots of new ones soon.

My new place is at jenniferbollenphotog.wordpress.com.

Cheers,

Jen x
