I just found out today that sadly, my good friend Katie’s house burnt down. The roof has been destroyed as has almost everything in the house. The insurance is all sorted and luckily Katie lives in a self-contained flat in the extension so most of her stuff is fine. Unfortunately her sister’s room is completely ruined. If I had some champagne right now I’d make them each one of these to try and cheer them up.
Champagne Cocktail –
3 or 4 dashes of Angostura Bitters
3/4 gill of Champagne
1 slice of Lemon
The juice of 1/4 Lemon
1 small lump of Sugar
1 small piece of Ice
Soak the lump of sugar in the Angostura Bitters. Squeeze the juice of 1/4 lemon into a wine glass and add the saturated sugar. Then add the piece of ice and full up with the Champagne. Serve with a slice of lemon. This is an admirable pick-me-up, my little book says. I’m sure Katie could do with one!
