I’m waiting to hear how much my first ever Poppy Appeal effort has raised for The Royal British Legion. We did shifts on a stall at Sainsbury’s in Milton Keynes last weekend and last night and I’m guessing we took between £80 and £100. There were 10 of us in total doing different shifts and the manager said that last year the Sainsbury’s stall raised between £3,000 and £4,000.

It was great fun and a really nice way to spend a couple of Saturday evenings. If you’d like to take part in the Poppy Appeal next year all you need to do is contact your local Legion members, let them know you’d like to collect for poppies and they’ll give you everything you need. You only need to pick up the stuff, turn up where they tell you to and return the full tins to them when the appeal ends. You don’t need to worry about cashing up and taking anything to the bank.
